American aviation firm Joby also pioneered full-scale test flights of their five-seat electric aircraft. In 2021, Joby began piloting its air taxi in partnership with the county of San Joaquin in California. The initial program involves medical transport and air ambulance operations to prove out the technology. Joby is working with regulators at the Federal Aviation Administration towards type certification and commercial launch of passenger service by 2024.
